FilmAid Kenya Film Festival

FilmAid Kenya’s Annual Film Festival is a multi-day event that celebrates the work of young refugee and host community filmmakers through activities such as film screening sessions and dialogues within the refugee camps and host communities. The festival celebrates the creative self-expression and ambitious determination of young refugee and host community filmmakers demanding to tell their own stories and represent their communities.

 

Creative and Self-Expressive Arts

FilmAid Kenya implements an annual training and mentorship program in theater, visual arts in Dadaab and Kakuma. Community arts-based programming to support self-expression, refugee participation, and psychosocial health.

This creates an environment where refugees and underserved communities use art to edify and motivate their audiences. FilmAid Kenya has a proven history of implementing arts-based projects in refugee camps to conserve cultural art, support expression, and build art entrepreneurs. Trainees use visual and performing arts to address social ills prevalent in the camps and the host community, such as spousal battery, Female Genital Mutilation, Drugs, and Substance Abuse.
