School Retention
Absame a 14-year-old Refugee boy living in Hagadera Camp in Dadaab refugee camp. He is forced to miss school for up to 4 weeks with social-cultural responsibilities of herding animals, caring for his sick dad, and other family chores despite his passion for education. Fowiso a classmate, neighbour and Mr Ibrahim Absame’s class teacher, concerned with absame’s chronic absenteeism, reaches out to Absame’s mother to allow him to attend school and sit for his examination. Absame’s mother was hesitant at first until the teacher handed her a journal written by Absame. The mother was shocked when she read the journal (I hope to one-day finish school and start my own business to bail out our family from this hardship) Absame mother promised to support him for his education and future.
